Since 2012 motor vessel Susie has provided George and Janet with comfort, safety, and some pretty amazing adventures in the Sea of Cortez. But as all good things seem to come to an end, they are sad to see her go. George, rest his soul, will be happy to know when Susie has found another caring owner to take her on for their own next chapter in life.

George and Janet first owned a sailboat, and one day decided they wanted to do more entertaining. They wanted overnight guests to have more space. So George hunted for the perfect home. From Mazatlan to Puerto Penasco, to San Diego and even up to San Francisco, George hunted.

Finally, right back here in La Paz, BCS, the gateway to the Sea of Cortez, the stars aligned and George and Janet and their dream boat came together. They became the fourth owners of this classic Grand Banks with its compact design, super little stateroom with a door to the deck, v-berth with its own head and door. Guests would have some privacy, and George and Janet loved the nice galley, big sink, efficient stove, huge fridge and freezer… and of course the big flybridge for parties.

“You just hand up drinks and trays from the galley and easily move in and out of the wide companionways,” says Janet.

And so George and Janet began to make Susie their own. Upgrading the generator for a larger Northern Lights and a thorough clean were first. They took special care of ongoing maintenance and upgrades, applying new exterior paint in 2017, adding new batteries in 2018, a new inverter 2019, some TLC for the engine including new including head gasket, rods and oil pumps in 2019, freshly servicing the windlass and replacing the radar.

The Bruce anchor does a solid holding job no matter the swell or wind conditions.

“On calm days there is nothing better than being up on the flybridge checking for whales or dolphins or whatever,” says Janet.

Are You and Susie Meant to Be?

Be ready to be the envy of any anchorage with Susie’s 20g/hr water maker, her new swim platform and dinghy davits, which will help ensure you enjoy each anchorage to the fullest.

Dinner and luncheon parties aboard Susie have been legendary, and so easy to cater. Whether you’re entertaining sons and daughters or your lifelong friends who envy your liveaboard lifestyle, Susie is the perfect host.

In preparation to sell Susie, Janet (with George coaching from above) have taken care to finish much of the brightwork, inside and out, and installed all new ant-slip covering on the entire deck.

She’s ready to sail away. Are you?
